The Baratza Encore is an electric burr grinder with a front pulse button and a separate on/off switch. It is a useful starting point for someone moving from pre-ground coffee or a blade grinder to an adjustable daily setup. The removable grounds container suits weighing a batch separately before brewing. Rather than treating the long list of possible brewing methods as a guarantee of espresso performance, decide which preparation you use most often and compare the adjustment system with that requirement. A filter-coffee routine and a demanding espresso routine need different levels of control.
Allow space to lift the hopper lid and remove the grounds container. Compare espresso-specific grinders if fine adjustment is your priority.
For a useful comparison, start with the coffee you make most often, the size of a normal batch and how frequently you change beans. Adjust one part of the recipe at a time and keep a note of the dose and grind setting, rather than expecting a setting name to produce an identical cup across different grinders. Allow access for emptying and the cleaning method approved in the manual. Electrical models need the correct US supply; manual models still require the time and effort to turn the crank. We have not measured particle distribution, noise, speed or extraction performance for this product.
