Blade or burr: choose a grinder for your method
A blade grinder chops the contents of its chamber. A burr grinder moves coffee between grinding surfaces set a particular distance apart. The names describe different mechanisms, not just different price points.
Match the adjustment to the brew
A casual filter-coffee routine and a finely adjusted espresso setup place different demands on the grinder. If you need repeatable small changes, look at how the settings work and whether the manufacturer explicitly supports your brewing method.
Check everyday usability
Consider the size of a normal dose, access for cleaning and where grounds collect. A transparent lid gives visibility, but does not prove a consistent particle distribution. Marketing claims about speed are not a substitute for knowing how the controls and mechanism work.
Separate spices and coffee thoughtfully
Some blade grinders are advertised for other dry ingredients. Follow the manufacturer’s restrictions and cleaning instructions. Residual aromas can carry over into coffee. Check the US electrical specification rather than assuming a similar-looking international model uses the same voltage.
